Lausanne, Olympic Capital
At the heart of Lake Geneva region, on the shore of Europe’s biggest fresh water lake, Lausanne is also the capital of Vaud Canton. It has been the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1915 and the Olympic capital since 1994. It is home to over 20 international sporting federations and the world’s only Olympic Museum.
Lausanne is first and foremost a city for encounters and leisure. From nautical sports to mountain pursuits, it attracts gourmets too for its distinctive local food and the Lavaux vineyards which have been entered on the UNESCO world heritage list. Home to the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the city stages over 300 cultural and sporting events every year for its guests.
