Saas-Fee/Saastal The Pearl of the Alps

The world-famous, car-free glacier village of Saas-Fee and its neighbours Saas-Grund, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen are situated amongst the highest mountain ranges in Switzerland, surrounded by no less than eighteen lofty mountains soaring higher than 4,000 metres. The sun-drenched Saastal is sure to fascinate you with its breathtaking panorama landscapes and clear blue skies.

Saas-Fee is situated at an altitude of 1,800 metres at the foot of the Mischabel chain. Visitors appreciate the peacefulness, the quality of the air and being able to walk freely along the car-free roads. The lively main street might lure you to a shopping spree, or you may prefer just to stroll along lovely alpine promenades.

Saas-Balen is located at the entrance to the Saas Valley region at an altitude of 1,400 metres. This is the perfect location for anyone wishing to spend a holiday in quiet surroundings. The unspoilt village characteristics have been well-preserved, and there are some lovely attractions: the Fellbach waterfall and the late-baroque church.

Saas-Grund lies in the heart of the Saas Valley region at an altitude of 1,500 metres. Saas-Grund is an ideal starting point for exploring other high-lying areas such as Gspon or Almagelleralp or the alpine-flora trail.

Saas-Almagell is the most southerly municipality in the Saas Valley region and is situated at 1,600 metres. This family-friendly resort with an idyllic atmosphere is well known through its ski stars, namely Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen.

S for sun, south and for Saas! The Saas valley lies just as far south as Ascona, and that’s why it has such a mild and temperate climate, in spite of its height.

The forests lie at an unusually high altitude, as does the gloriously colourful alpine flora, and the sun shines for 300 days of the year. Some 350 kms of hiking trails take you to magnificent panoramic view-points, or along many theme-based paths, or maybe along the Nordic Walking tracks.

There are also numerous activities for the more adventurous: adventure forest, toboggan run, scooter ride, alpine gorge, via ferratas, mountain climbingtain and much more. For example: don’t forget to go up to the Allalin, at 3,500 metres above sea level. Here you can enjoy magnificent views of the glacier and mountains from inside the highest revolving restaurant in the world, as well as discovering the mysteries of the glacier inside the ice grotto.
